From our Elk Creek line of hand made products, this buckle set is made of sterling overlay where a deep, top layer of the metal is solid sterling, and the bottom is a non-precious metal backing. This top layer of sterling is very thick -deep enough to engrave in to, and won't ever wear or rub through. This overlay material gives the appearance of solid sterling without the solid sterling price.
